Ferroptosis

Ferroptosis is a recently discovered form of regulated cell death that depends on ferrous iron ions and involves the high expression of unsaturated fatty acids on the cell membrane, leading to lipid

peroxidation and membrane damage. Morphologically, the characteristics of ferroptosis include mitochondrial shrinkage and increased membrane thickness. In terms of cellular components, it is characterized by lipid peroxidation and elevated levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can be induced by multiple signaling pathways. Research indicates that the key regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis involve the homeostasis of redox and iron metabolism.
