The ability of animal cells to sense and respond to oxygen is crucial. Hypoxia refers to a state where the levels and pressure of oxygen within cells are below normal due to an imbalance between oxygen consumption and supply, which can be caused by hypoxemia, impaired oxygen transport, or cellular oxygen uptake damage. Short-term hypoxia can activate gene expression and promote tissue repair, while long-term hypoxia may lead to functional impairment and is associated with various diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Hypoxia signaling pathways are the mechanisms by which cells regulate metabolism, proliferation, and survival under hypoxic conditions, involving the activation of protein molecules and transcription factors, and participating in processes such as angiogenesis, inflammatory responses, and tumorigenesis. This pathway is primarily regulated by hypoxiainducible factors (HIF), which play a central role in the development, physiological functions, and diseases of mammals. Studying hypoxia signaling pathways can help discover new therapeutic strategies.
