β-galactosidase (β-GAL, EC 3.2.1.23) is a hydrolytic enzyme that widely exists in animals, plants, microorganisms and cultured cells. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of β-galactosidase bonds in β-galactosidase compounds and also has the function of transgalactoside.
